The northernmost segment of our satellite image shows the entrance to South Seas Plantation, a private resort covering the northern tip of Captiva. The Plantation features a beautiful golf course, a yacht club, a small boat harbor, and lots of tennis courts and pools. As with all of Captiva, the landscape is rich in natural folliage and flowers that thrive on the near-perfect weather. The palms, Australian pines, and other tropical trees shade the luxurious homes and provide calm habitat for song birds.

At the bottom of the photo, a small commercial district offers excellent stores and restaurants as well as the Post Office. These establishments are available to the public and are well worth the visit. Only registered guests are permitted to drive beyond the South Seas Plantation gatehouse.
